PPEP's newest innovation
is targeted to assist single parent mothers and families
in TANF transitioning off welfare into employment.
The project focuses on
training in the areas of organic gardening, landscaping,
self-employment, safety, and agribusiness skills.
The skills training addresses
the major local employers needs in agriculture, organic
farming and landscaping. The Santa Cruz Valley has at
least a dozen golf courses, several organic and alfalfa
farms, and Farmers Investment Company, one of the regions
largest pecan growers as potential employers. Skills
training is offered in Operation of Equipment, Pesticide
Training, Self-employment, Landscaping, Organic Gardening,
Use of Gardening Tools, Home Gardening Skills, Job Interviewing
and Job Mart-Resume Skills.
The training project is
housed at the La Arrastra Ranch in Arivaca that has
donated its two acre organic garden and greenhouse for
exclusive use to the training project.
In cooperation with the
Department of Economic Security JOBS Program and the
Arivaca Human Resources Coordinating Council ( Rebecca
Sheets/Laison and Ron Crabtree/President), PPEP is coordinating
this pilot project in sweat equity towards employment
and eventually self-sufficiency. For additional information
